After a year and a half of upgrades Dalby police say they are hoping their new state of the art station will attract more community members to sign up to the force.

The station was upgraded for the first time in 30 years as part of an $11.5m project and included a complete gutting and remodelling of the building and the construction of a brand-new attached building.

The upgrade was funded through a $300m statewide project to improve policing facilities.

Acting Senior Sergeant Peter Reimers said it was great to have an upgraded facility after over a year of renovations.

“The renovations are great, we’ve got more room for staff and nicer facilities upstairs for our detectives,” he said.

“It’s been excellent, we’ve been in here for a few months now and it has been really well received, it was a long time coming.

“It used to be really run down, but now it’s been a pleasure to come to work.”

During the upgrades police were based out of a temporary station on Drayton St which will now be used to house specialist units improving Dalby’s policing capacity.

“Our Tactical Crime Squad and our Vulnerable Person Unit will be coming down soon to support the community based in the old temporary building,” Senior Sergeant Reimers said.

“They haven’t been based here before and are new additions to Dalby. It’ll be a positive for the community as they will help assist our front line police.”

Senior Sergeant Peter Reimers said there were currently 25 officers working from the station and he hoped the new facilities would attract more.

“We are hoping to increase the capacity it will help us to house more staff and hopefully we get more police to Dalby,” he said.

“We need as many police as we can get here, with frontline policing the demand is always increasing so it is always better to have staff here.

“If members of the public see we have a brand new station it could encourage them to sign up.”
