A Tara man found with four cannabis plants and liquid THC told police they were for his dog’s arthritis, a court has been told.
Andrew Charles Vinson, 44, faced Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing cannabis.
The court was told at 9.21am on December 18 police executed a search warrant at a Tara property where the defendant was present.
Vinson was co-operative and when asked if he had anything to declare took police around the back of the house to show them four cannabis plants ranging from 130cm to 190cm tall.
He told police he had purchased a drop toilet and wanted something to do with the waste and said he believed they were hemp plants and legal to grow.
During their search police located a glass bottle containing about 15ml of hemp oil and a clip seal bag with about 6.8g of dried cannabis.
Vinson told police the THC oil was for his dog’s arthritis, however he admitted to smoking cannabis but said he wasn’t a daily smoker.
He also admitted the sealed cannabis was from the plants outside despite previously saying he thought they were hemp.
Vinson admitted to police that he should have just got a prescription.
For the offending he was fined $600, the drugs were forfeited and no conviction was recorded.
