TODAY is the last day for locals to comment on the land rezoning occurring around Dalby, including Dalby-Kogan Rd and Yarella Rd.

The council is moving to rezone the land within these roads as "high impact”.

Concerned residents met to share their grievances and how the changes will impact their day-to-day lives. Locals are worried the changes will disrupt their businesses and homes.

The council decided to extend the deadline for residents to submit objections and concerns. Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the council was happy to hear the views of the locals, but believed the changes would benefit the region in the long-term.

"The proposed amendments relating to the recommendations of the Industrial Land Use Strategy are focused on providing opportunity for High Impact Industry uses in key locations in Dalby which minimise the impact on residents,” Mayor McVeigh said in a statement.

Residents are also concerned about the health issues that accompany high impact rezoning. Warnings of toxic emissions have circulated and locals are concerned the changes will make the area unliveable.

Submissions can be sent to the council by email, or can be hand delivered to a Customer Contact Centre near you. They can also be posted to the Western Downs Regional Council. Submissions will be accepted until close of business today.
