SWIMMING: Swimmers from around the region will flock to Dalby Aquatic Centre this Sunday to battle it out in the pool with state squad selections at stake.
The Dalby Dolphins will host the Dalby Open Swim Meet and, with 250 competitors registered, it will be the largest crowd to date.
Club spokesman Marita Nielsen said it was their biggest event ever.
"It will be a full house in Dalby on Sunday,” she said.
"There are 250 swimmers registered representing an array of clubs including the Darling Downs, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Roma, Chinchilla, Warwick, Stanthorpe and Goondiwindi.
"They are not only swimming against their own personal times but the swim meet also presents an opportunity for the swimmers to be selected in the Queensland state squad.”
The event will comprise of all school ages from seven years and under in a special category, all the way through to Year 12 students at 17 years of age.
Club registrar Amanda Bliesner said it would be a huge day of racing.
"The group of under-sevens will swim 25m and then we will have ages from eight and above swimming 50m, 100m, 200m and this year we even have an 800m race,” she said.
"We have 60 swimmers from the Dolphins competing, which is the most we've ever had.
"This year we are also sending six relay teams down to Brisbane for the state championships on December 15 and this race meet will give them a good opportunity to race against other clubs.”
Bliesner said it would be a great experience for all.
"As long as it is not too hot and doesn't storm, in the past the weather has been a bit crazy on the Dalby open day but other than that I'm excited because it will be a really good day.”
