Heading into the silly season a number of people have been sentenced in Dalby Magistrates Court for drink or drug driving offences.

Here are four people who have been before court.

Samuel Griffiths

Griffiths pleaded guilty in Dalby Magistrates Court to driving under the influence causing a crash.

The 34-year-old crashed his Mitsubishi Triton on Dalby-Kogan Rd, southeast of Kogan about 9.30pm on September 3.

Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins told the court police attended the crash, found the Triton overturned and Griffiths missing.

“On the initial incident at 10.55pm they commenced searching for the driver through bushland directly across from where the crash occurred,” Mr Hutchins said.

“Searching through the bushland at 11.05pm they located the driver.”

Mr Hutchins told the court Griffiths had an exceptionally high blood alcohol concentration reading of 0.194.

In court Griffiths said it was a stupid decision to drive that night, and that he has taken responsibility as well as completing an alcohol course online.

“I’ve learnt my lesson, spent three weeks in hospital because of the accident,” Griffiths said.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne said despite the incident that occurred and the exceptionally high reading while driving he had shown insight by having completed the alcohol course.

Griffiths was fined $1000 and his licence was disqualified for six months.

No conviction was recorded.

Emily Kate Lewis

Lewis appeared in Dalby Magistrates and pleaded guilty to speeding and drink driving.

Mr Hutchins told the court Lewis was pulled over about 8pm on October 21 after driving 80km/h in a 60km/h zone.

The 27-year-old returned a BAC of 0.071.

Ms Payne sentenced her to a $850 fine and one month licence disqualification.

Desmond Lyall Charles McKellar

McKellar pleaded guilty in Dalby Magistrates Court for drug driving.

Mr Hutchins told the court about 4.48pm on August 20, the 37-year-old labourer was pulled over for random drug testing and tested positive for THC.

Mr Hutchins told the court McKellar had made admissions to using drugs two days prior.

Ms Payne sentenced him to a one month licence disqualification and a $350 fine.

No conviction was recorded.

Kimberley Margaret Bronner

Bronner appeared in Dalby Magistrates Court for driving with drugs present in her system.

Mr Hutchins told the court the 39-year-old’s first offence was on September 18 when police conducted patrols and Bronner tested positive for methamphetamine.

Mr Hutchins said Bronner tested positive for methamphetamine on a second occasion on October 6.

Bronner held a provisional licence during the first charge but held an open licence during the second charge.

Ms Payne sentenced Bronner to a four month licence disqualification and a $700 fine.

No convictions were recorded.
