The fifth annual Big Skies Festival has been hailed a success with more than 2500 guests enjoying four days of country and rock music set against the stunning backdrop of Jimbour House.
Guests travelled from Brisbane, Gold and Sunshine Coasts and as far as New Zealand to take part in the festivities including repeat festival visitor, Alex Rose of Toowoomba, who said in a press release that they came back every year to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.
“We bring a growing group of extended family and friends back every year. It’s the atmosphere and everyone’s off the phones so you can relax, while at the same time have some serious fun. There’s no place you would rather be on a long weekend.”
Brisbane visitors Mark and Sarah Banks echoed the sentiment.
“The set up is beautiful. To anyone who’s planning on coming to Big Skies, everything at the festival is so close and I would definitely recommend the festival markets, the Happy Hour at the Camp Kitchen and Hangar where it’s great for mingling,” they said.
In the press release Western Downs Regional Council mayor Andrew Smith said Big Skies helped to showcase what the region had to offer.
“Now in its fifth year, it is more than just a music festival, it’s an immersive experience showcasing the unique experiences, big blue skies and active, vibrant communities that make the Western Downs such an exciting place to visit,” he said.
“This year we had two massive nights of concerts, with some of Australia’s best country music stars performing on the Saturday, followed by a once-in-a-lifetime lineup of classic rock legends on the Sunday.
“Earlier in the week we had Canapes Under the Stars and the Sunset Dinner featuring our delicious, fresh local produce. There was also Happy Hour in the Hangar, a trip to the Bunya Mountains, and of course the camp kitchen and markets throughout the festival weekend.
“We’re incredibly proud to be part of such an amazing event - it’s not only a lot of fun, but it’s also a chance to grow our region’s tourism, introduce people to our incredible industries and producers, and share the natural beauty and rich history of the Western Downs.”
