EACH year girls and young women around Queensland participate for the title of Miss Showgirl.

The event starts at local levels with show societies calling for nomination across the categories.

Jandowae's annual Showgirl Dinner is being held on Saturday, March 2 at the Jandowae Golf Club.

Coordinator Sue Wilson said there were entrants in the Minor Junior (5-8), Junior Princess (9-12), Junior Showgirl (13-16) and the senior Miss Showgirl.

When asked what traits she thought a show girl should posses Sue said they have to be passionate about their show and about the town.

Judges will be talking to the entrants the afternoon before the dinner so their decision can be announced that night.

There is a range of different things judges might take into account when speaking to the young women.

"What do you do in the community, do you play sports, do you go to the show, do you support the show?” Sue said.

"Do you participate at the show? Some of them do horse riding in the events, some of them do cattle.”

Sue said a lot of the entrants are involved in the Jandowae show with some of the volunteering in the kitchen.

The successful Jandowae entrant will go to the Royal Toowoomba Show on April 12-14 to meet her counterparts and try for the chance to represent Jandowae and the wider region at the Ekka in August.

For more information call Sue on 4668 5110.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for high school students and $5 primary school students and can be purchased at the door.
