Community members are being invited to take a sneak peek at the brand new $22.6m Tara Hospital later this month.

The new hospital will be situated on the existing hospital grounds and will provide a wider range of services including emergency care, palliative care, a 12-bed inpatient unit, adult mental health, clinical services and outreach services.

The new building will replace the current eight-bed hospital to service more than 2000 people within the surrounding area.

The construction is part of the state government’s $943.5m Building Rural and Remote Health Program to replace ageing rural and remote facilities.

Lead by Hutchinson Builders the hospital is expected to be completed in the first half of 2025 with the existing hospital to be demolished following construction.

“The new Tara Hospital will enable the delivery of modern, high-quality healthcare to residents in Tara and surrounds,” a Darling Downs Health spokesperson said.

“The new facility will offer modern services, upgraded inpatient beds and updated equipment to support the community for generations to come.”

Queensland Health Minister Shannon Fentiman previously told the Dalby Herald the existing facilities had served its communities, but it has reached its limits.

“To meet the growing needs of these regions, it’s time for an upgrade,” she said.

Darling Downs Health will be hosting the open day for residents to discuss the designs and meet with the team behind the build.

The event will kick off at 10am with a meet and greet and morning tea for traditional owners, elders and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people before a community drop-in session from 11am to 1pm with community members invited to enjoy a free sausage sizzle and meet the project team.

The drop-in session will take place on Tuesday August 27 and RSVP’s are not required.
