Palliative care facility upgrade

Zonta Club of Dalby have received a grant of $5000 to help refurbish the palliative care rooms at Dalby Hospital.

ZONTA Club of Dalby have received a grant of $5000 to help refurbish the palliative care rooms at Dalby Hospital.

The grant is part of the Stronger Communities programme.

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud announced the grant that would be used to upgrade the self-contained rooms at the Dalby Hospital.

"Under the funding guidelines, projects had to deliver community benefits and the Zonta Club of Dalby's vision will provide patients and their families with a safe and comfortable space to access appropriate medical and pastoral care,” Mr Littleproud said.

"We want to provide a home-away-from-home for patients and their families during the final stages of life so this is a very important project for the Western Downs community.”

Mr Littleproud said the refurbishment of the palliative care rooms would include two new single-bed recliners, frosted windows for privacy, new artworks and furniture replacement.

"Locals know their community best and have innovative ideas on how to support their region so when it comes to advocating for funding,” he said.

"Whether it was installing disability access to improve access for a community building, a food project to support our most vulnerable or sport complex upgrades - and everything in-between - project nominations were of a high standard and I received more than 90 applications seeking more than $1 million in funding.”

All federal electorates, including Maranoa, were allocated $150,000 under the Stronger Communities Programme, with up to 20 projects being able to be funded.
