Hundreds braved the heat for last weekend’s Moo and Brew Festival, with guests enjoying cold beers and locally sourced beef.

Held at the 112-year-old Bun Hotel in Kaimkillenbun the event attracted punters from all over the Western Downs and as far as Sydney.

Bun Hotel owner Jaimee Nielsen said despite temperatures reaching 35C and wild storms thrashing the region it had done little to dampen the crowd’s spirits.

“The event was a great success with over 200 campers Friday and Saturday night enjoying live music and meals both nights and 703 attendees Saturday for the event itself,” she said.

“The crowd wasn’t deterred by the heat or the storms which we encountered both evenings.

“We had music acts from Brisbane, two smokehouses and over 12 drink companies come to put on a great show for our region.

“The feedback has been incredible, and the event is evolving each year.”

Ms Nielsen said the Moo and Brew Festival was an important event for the small town and the region.

“Seeing how exciting it is for the community and the industry reps is so rewarding, it is really important to ensure it happens every year,” she said.

“It is a great thing for the community as well as great to give back to the companies who support small pubs.

“It is a good get together, everyone mingles and has a yarn and we are able to showcase what we have in our backyard.

“People are now starting to make it an annual thing with their family and friends.

“The fact that a small pub-run event in Kaimkillenbun is getting almost half as many people as a big event like Big Skies gets is pretty great.”

Ms Nielsen thanked everyone for their support and said the event would return next year.

“Huge thanks to the beverage companies who gave up their Saturday to work for us to show support for our event,” she said.

“Thanks also to the campers and visitors who respected our town and left it so clean and tidy, to the attendees, most attending for their third year in a row, thank you for being an amazing crowd of supporters.

“Lastly a big thank you to our very small team of staff who worked tirelessly with us to put this event on for our community.

“The Moo and Brew Festival is scheduled to return on November 8, 2025.”
