The Dalby Stock Horse Sale has smashed a number of records at its golden jubilee with almost $6m in horses sold, alongside records for the top-priced mare, and gelding.

The world’s largest Australian stock horse sale took place earlier this month with 258 horses sold at an average sale price of $23,162 and gross sales exceeding $5.9m.

Five year-old Westlake Corina was the top selling mare being purchased for a record breaking $130,000 by the Linneth family from Tansey.

The Linneth family also purchased the second top-priced mare, Stareen Confetti for $80,000.

The sale’s top gelding, Westlake Collusion, broke the record for the highest gelding price in the sale’s 50-year history, selling for an eye-watering $70,000.

Meanwhile Chinchilla’s Steve and Ursula Keating’s Warregold Rainmaker was the top price stallion selling for $20,000.

The Keating family also sold the top-priced stallion during last year’s event.

Remarkably, all four of the auction’s top selling horses were sired by the same stallion, Hazelwood Conman.

In a press release Darling Downs Australian Stock Horse Society president Rick Young hailed the 50th event a major success.

“It was an incredible event for the Darling Downs Branch and Ray White team,” he said.

“We were amazed by the turnout — so many people came from far and wide, reminiscing about the past 50 years.

“The atmosphere was amazing, especially hearing all of the stories about horses, people, and prices from over the decades was fantastic. The crowd was like nothing we’ve seen in years, and even the local pubs said they hadn’t seen anything like it for a long time.

“The feedback from vendors and buyers was overwhelmingly positive, with record-setting results across the board — from the number of vendors and horses to the number of attendees and trade sites.

“The whole weekend was a true testament to the passion people have for the Australian stock horse, and we’re excited to build on this for the future.”

Principal of Ray White Livestock Dalby David Felsch thanked everyone who helped make the event possible.

“Everyone worked so hard to make this event a success,” he said in a press release.

“It’s been a massive effort, not just from us but also from the branch. These shows take months of preparation, and it’s really rewarding when everyone’s on the same page, working towards a great outcome.

“The ladies in the office, the auctioneers, the bid spotters and the whole team — everyone put in a huge effort across the four days, and it’s humbling to see the support we received.”
