More than 20,000 people are expected to flood into Jondaryan next year for Australia’s largest historic machinery event.

Held biennially, the National Historical Machinery Association National Rally will see organisers putting on the largest event ever held within the Southern Hemisphere, with more than 500 exhibits on display.

Next year’s event held at the Historic Jondaryan Woolshed will also feature Steaming under the Southern Cross with 60 to 70 steam engines and vintage machines on display.

Steaming under the Southern Cross secretary Warren Buckley said while the event was still a year away it was shaping up to be massive for the region.

“From August 23 to 31, 2025, we are hosting two major events at the Woolshed. First will be the National Heritage Machinery Rally with a wide display of vintage machinery for our 19th rally, “ he said.

“We will also incorporate the feature of Steaming Under the Southern Cross and that goes for the full nine days, we are expecting upwards of 60-70 steam engines and vintage machineries, steam trucks and tractors coming from all over Australia for an action packed week.

“We are looking at having machinery that is over 100 years old with machinery dating back to the late 1800s which is still operational.”

Mr Buckley said the event would feature steam engines, vintage cars, mini train and trailer rides, stalls and much more for the thousand's in attendance.

“This will bring upwards of 20,000 visitors to the region and with the added feature of Steaming On The Southern Cross, it will bring a huge tourism boost for the region,” he said.

“This is the biggest event we have ever put on and are expecting to see vast numbers. We will fill the grounds and have activities, major events and road run demonstrations across the rally.

“We are sending out camping invitations at the moment and we have people from all over Australia ready to go, there is also significant international interest from people in England and America.”

Mr Buckley said the event was the brainchild of a number of local groups.

“The event will be hosted by the Toowoomba and District Old Machine Society, Steaming On the Downs and Queensland Steam and Vintage Machinery Society forming a committee to run this major event,” he said.

“A significant amount of work has gone into putting this together, we have a great committee and we are using members from three clubs to put this together, we have a lot of experience with many of us having been organisers of national and state run events.

“For us three local clubs to put this together is a real feather in our cap and shows we are respected throughout Australia.”

In preparation for next year’s event the committee will be hosting an official event launch on August 23 at 11am at the Historic Jondaryan Woolshed giving guest a sneak peak of what to expect for the 2025 event.

The launch will also coincide with the Wind, Wool and Warmth event.
