BELL Racecourse saw a stellar turnout for what was a successful race day. Approximately 1000 people attended on Saturday, with people staying well into the evening for the night time entertainment.
Vice President of Bell Racing Club, Kirsten Todd, was very pleased with the turnout on the day.
"It was a really successful day,” Ms Todd said.
"We had more people than last year, and the crowd was fantastic. The crowd was really well-behaved.”
Before the programme began at 1.30pm, spectators got to enjoy a marquee bar filled with plenty of drinks and good food, with live music continuing from the afternoon until late.
Kids also enjoyed a free jumping castle.
President of Bell Racing Club, Daryl Ramsay, said that the success of the day came down to the crowd enjoying themselves.
"It's always enjoyable seeing other people enjoy themselves,” Mr Ramsay said.
"It was a really nice atmosphere.”
The five-race programme saw plenty of success for spectators betting and jockeys racing. 12 bookies attended the races to assist with the placing of bets.
Dalby-based trainer David Reynolds placed third in race three with his horse Pick of the Pubs ridden by his wife, jockey Leeanne McCoy.
The trainer says that the best part of the event is always the sense of community felt in the crowd.
"The racing side of things is always good for us,” Mr Reynolds said.
"But what the community do out there is pretty amazing.”
The Fashions on the Field were, as always, a highlight of the day.
Ms Todd also coordinated the Fashions on the Field, and was very impressed at how the crowd dressed to impress.
"It was probably the largest Fashions we've ever had,” Ms Todd said.
"There was just such a high standard in the fashions this year. I know the judges found it really hard to pick winners this year. In the contemporary section they had to run the contestants through twice because the judges couldn't decide on a winner.”
One of the sponsors of the day, AGL, provided $500 for the winners in the fashion categories.
