DALBY Local Darcy Reed took on a new challenge at the National Sevens Championship in Ballymore last weekend as a member of the Queensland Rugby Sevens team. The 17-year-old was selected out of about 120 avid rugby players to play for the team.
"You had to get selected in a 60-70 man squad, and then they cut it down to the 36 that play,” Darcy explained.
Darcy was even awarded the Player's Player award, which was voted on by his team mates.
Darcy's number 1 fan, his dad Scott, says the most important thing is that the boys are all enjoying themselves.
"The smile on their face is what it's all about,” Scott said.
Despite the incredible achievement, Reed is setting his sights on bigger and better things.
"I'm hoping to play firsts next year and then hopefully make the Queensland Sevens team again next year,” he said.
"Saying you played for the Wallabies would be something to brag about!”
