Race Club to receive $219,000 of govt funding for upgrades

THE Chinchilla Race Club is set to receive a $200,000 upgrade as part of a state government country racing infrastructure package.

The $3.9 million package will be shared by 55 Queensland clubs, with $848,000 going to 15 clubs in the Darling Downs, Maranoa and South West.

The $219,000 dedicated to Chinchilla will be spent on building two sheds donated by the Brisbane Racing Club, a new inside running rail, and transfer of existing rail to the outside and fencing for the mounting yard/enclosure.

Meanwhile $50,000 has been allocated to the Tara Race Club for upgrades to the Jockey/Stewards' room, and another $25,000 to the Warra Race Club for fencing and cement works to the wash bay area.

Racing Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the funding was part of the government's four-year $70.4 million Country Racing Support Package.

"Country racing is integral to communities and residents living in the Darling Downs, Maranoa and South West Queensland,” he said.

"Small non-TAB clubs are at the heart of these communities, bringing people together and supporting local economies.

"They're not rich clubs by any means, but they have to meet ongoing infrastructure needs and this doesn't always come cheap.

"These funds will help improve the financial bottom line of these clubs while delivering the infrastructure they need going forward:
