Chinchilla Cattle Breeding Station sells for $25m within two weeks of listing
A cattle breeding station outside of Chinchilla has sold for well over the asking price, just weeks after hitting the market. Here’s why.

Less than two weeks after listing the property, the 11,445.54ha Auburn Station has sold for $25.1m.
Sold by Colliers Agribusiness agents to local property owners Peter and Shari Knudsen, Auburn Station is located 104km north of Chinchilla.
Colliers Head of Agribusiness Rawdon Briggs said there was tough competition among buyers after several neighbours expressed interest, and ultimately the buyers were local landowners.
Mr Briggs said it was a mixture of good seasonal conditions, a strong beef cattle market and the location of this property that contributed to the quick sale.
“The station offers ground and surface water and is regarded as being the best watered property in the region,” he said.
Colliers Queensland’s Phillip Kelly said the grazing property was in a sought after and tightly held area, due to its close proximity to Australia’s largest concentration of beef cattle feedlots and the country’s largest livestock selling centres of Roma and Dalby.
“The offer was above vendors’ expectations however the buyers were ecstatic to secure this quality beef cattle property,” Mr Kelly said.
“Auburn Station has a carry capacity of 1500 breeders plus progeny year on year. Previous owners, up until 2015, operated a backgrounding enterprise with a turnover of 3000 plus steers per annum achieving weight gains of around 120kg/head.
“With infrastructure including a homestead, manager and worker accommodation, multiple sheds and two sets of cattle yards, this was a property in high demand.”
