Miles suspicious death: Police say man was involved in ‘altercation’ before death

Police have revealed a man who died in suspicious circumstances in the Western Downs on Tuesday night was with a friend and together they visited a home just hours before he was found dead. Here’s what we know.

An investigation is underway surrounding the suspicious death of 44-year-old Miles man Jonathan Martin on Tuesday March 21.

Police are investigating the suspicious death of 44-year-old Miles Jonathan Martin, who was found dead at a Hawkins St address.

Police and paramedics arrived at the address just after 11pm on Tuesday, March 21, where Mr Martin was found unresponsive.

Paramedics rendered first aid and the man was taken to Miles Hospital, however Mr Martin was unable to be revived.

South West District Detective Chief Inspector Garry Watts said at 9.45pm that night, the deceased and a friend had visited an address on Hawkins St, Miles.

“At that location some sort of altercation developed and as a result the deceased suffered an injury to his chest and collapsed,” Chief Inspector Watts said.

He said police could not confirm the type of injuries he sustained.

Chief Inspector Watts said police were still awaiting post mortem results to determine the cause of death.

Investigations are underway and no persons of interest have been identified.
