Western Downs police are determined to put a dent in the drug crisis gripping regional towns, with a raft of drug offenders nabbed in raids and traffic stops.

One of five people who plead guilty at the Chinchilla Magistrates Court to drug offences was Tara dad Micheal Raymond Moffat.

The court heard officers found half a gram of meth in the 44-year-old’s car during a routine stop and when they raided his home more than a month later on January 29, they uncovered a scoop, bong, and pipe.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Chris Hutchins told the court Moffat routinely failed to show up to court dates, adding three failures to appear to his extensive four-page rap sheet.

For the possession of drugs, utensils, and failing to appear, Moffat was sentenced to a month’s jail, which was wholly suspended for six months. He was also fined $540.

Rodney James Wall was also busted driving around Chinchilla with his drug stash, with officers uncovering meth, weed, 52 marijuana seeds, and a grinder in his car on July 30.

After pleading guilty to possessing drugs and utensils, Wall was fined $600.

No conviction was recorded.

On the morning of August 4, Jaye Phillip Miles had packed one his bongs with weed ready to smoke when officers burst into his home with a search warrant.

Miles pleaded guilty to possessing drugs and two bongs, and contravening a police requirement and was slapped with a $750 fine.

Police intercepted Lana Marie Nox on the Warrego Highway at Chinchilla on July 31 uncovering a small quantity of drugs she at the time claimed belonged to a friend.

Via an email to the court, Nox pleaded guilty to possessing drugs and was fined $350.

Paul Wayne Mccann also pleaded guilty to possessing a drug utensil via email after police found a used glass pipe in his car at Charleville.

When he was pulled over he told officers the pipe belonged to his ex-girlfriend who he’d broken up with a day prior on July 28.

He was fined $300.
