A dramatic police chase has ended with two 18-year-olds being charged over a spate of Darling Downs property offences, with officers deploying road spikes along a major highway during the pursuit.
Police claim a car stolen from a Raff Street home in Toowoomba in the early hours of Wednesday morning was involved in a petrol drive-off at a service station on the Warrego Highway at Charlton at 1.55am.
The car was located travelling westbound on 4AK Road towards Oakey, with police alleging the driver ran through road spikes at about 2.55am but failed to stop, leading to a pursuit.
A Darling Downs police spokesman said the driver failed to negotiate a bend at the intersection of 4AK and Hamlyn Roads shortly afterward and collided with a house, causing significant damage to the building but no injury to its occupants.
“The three occupants of the vehicle, two males and one female, fled on foot with police apprehending two 18-year-olds soon after,” the spokesman said.”
An 18-year-old Chinchilla man was arrested and charged with eight offences including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, burglary and commit an indictable offence, stealing, receiving tainted property and contravening a domestic violence order.
He was denied police bail and is due to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
