When a rowdy group of teens rocked up to the Miles War Memorial at Anzac Park, it didn’t take long for the night to take a turn for the worst when shots were fired through the roof of a toilet block.
Cameron Dunn was caught on CCTV causing a raft of damage to and graffitiing the council-owned property.
Police prosecutor Chris Hutchins said the 19-year-old shot the skylight in the mother’s baby changing room with an air rifle because he’d locked himself in and thought it was bright idea to climb out via the roof.
Sergeant Hutchins said the unemployed man caused $474.74 worth of damages during the late-night shenanigans on Tuesday, March 2.
Duty lawyer Jessica Hine told the court her client said it had been a night of bad choices and he had borrowed his mates’ gun to “show it off”.
Magistrate Kerri O’Callaghan told Dunn it was dangerous to be walking around with a weapon, because “you don’t know or what you will come across.”
Dunn pleaded guilty in Chinchilla Magistrates Court to discharging a weapon in public, wilful damage, and engaging in high-risk activities and was placed on good behaviour bond for six months.
The teen, who had no criminal history, was ordered to pay Western Downs Regional Council the $474.74 in restitution.
No conviction was recorded.
