MOTORBIKE enthusiasts Lenni and Jeff Davis are encouraging people to get behind the wheel next weekend in a community-wide effort to help raise funds for a very special member of the town.

The Miles community is rallying next Saturday morning in support of ambulance officer and family man Chris Grimes, who has been battling with bowel cancer for eight years.

Work colleagues Mrs Davis and Chris met at the Miles Hospital several years ago when the Grimes family first moved to the small town and the two soon became good mates.

"We joke around all the time that we're family because my grandmother's maiden name was Grimes but in reality Chris, Leanne and their beautiful kids have become a part of the Miles community and we want to do everything we can to help them through this difficult time,” Mrs Davis said.

Mr and Mrs Davis decided they wanted to do their part to help support Chris and his family through his treatments by organising a bike, car and bus poker run with all the money raised going towards helping pay for his medical and travel expenses.

"It's going to be a great day and Chris is going to be in on the action, riding up behind Jeff here on our trike and said he couldn't be more excited,” Mrs Davis said.

Next Saturday's ride starts at Anzac Park with a community breakfast starting at 7.30am and the ride commencing from 9.30am before travelling through the Western Downs with stops in Chinchilla, Condamine and Dulacca before wrapping up at the Miles Golf Club.

Riders will receive a card at each stop along the way to create their very best poker hand.

There will also be a competition running for the best car and bike so get polishing!

The poker ride registration is only $30 so if you've got a bike, car or anything on wheels you feel like showing off, contact Mrs Davis today to secure your spot.
