HARVEST TIME: Chinchilla Dance draws crowd from near and far

First Chinchilla dance in decades brings the Western Downs community together.

THE DANCE floor of St Cecelia's Anglican church hall in Chinchilla came alive last Saturday with dancers of all ages from right across the Western Downs for a rather historic occasion. 

The Chinchilla Harvest Time Dance was the first of it's kind to be held in town for quite some time. 

Organiser Mary Nicholls said the Anglican Church are hoping to hold a dance in the hall every season and use the profits raised to go towards maintaining the parishes buildings. 

"Given the great turn out we received at our first dance I should hope there's a good chance we can host four a year," she said.

"It gives locals something to look forward to and gives people around the region an excuse to come to town for the evening."

Reverend Terry Frew said it was great to see so many talented dancers take to the floor for the very first Harvest Time Dance.

"Apparently Chinchilla hasn't hosted a dance in years so it's wonderful to see  such a lovely country tradition resurrected again."
