A newly erected memorial honouring the lives and service of late Constables Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold, who were fatally shot during the Wieambilla shooting in December 2022, has been unveiled at Miles Police Station.

The memorial was a result of police officers, the police union and the Miles community banding together to forever remember the two fallen officers who were known throughout the town.

“Constable Rachel McCrow was stationed at Miles for a number of months, bonding strongly with her colleagues and the local community,” Queensland Police Union vice president Shane Prior said.

“Constable Matthew Arnold while assigned to nearby Dalby station worked alongside officers from Miles and mixed socially with the team while off duty.

“The QPU combined with local businesses from Miles to fund a fitting memorial in the front yard of the police station that we hope will become a place of peace and reflection.

“The service and sacrifice of Rachel and Matt will never be forgotten, it’s appropriate that everyone who enters the Miles Police Station will recognise what this memorial means to police and the local community. Their names will never be forgotten.

“Discussions are continuing about appropriate memorials to be placed at Tara and Chinchilla police stations.”
