Philanthropic Chinchilla local and former Citizen of the Year Yvonne Wolski remembered after her death

Tributes are flowing for beloved Western Downs local and former Chinchilla and District Citizen of the Year Recipient Yvonne Irene Wolski who passed away at the age of 68 last week.

Born and raised in Brigalow, Mrs Wolski married her husband Brian 50 years ago and worked as a dairy farmer for 40 years alongside him prior to moving to town. Throughout these years, she still found time to help out the community that was close to her heart.

Mrs Wolski made significant contributions to her community through involvement in the Boonarga Hall Committee, Chinchilla Tennis Club, Brigalow Tennis Club, Boonarga Tennis Club, Brigalow Recreation Grounds Committee, Horticultural Society, Chinchilla Show Society, school tuckshops and any other organisation or event that required assistance.

She was also well known for her elaborate award-winning Christmas light decorations and Christmas toy set ups which brought joy to the region for more than 30 years.

Mrs Wolski’s family said she would be remembered as “the most full of life, outgoing wife, mum, ma and grandma that anyone could want in their lives”.

“Her constant catering expertise were renowned across the district and at many family events and the community and family will remember her for her most loved hobby of gardening and her immense knowledge of plants,” her family said.

“We are also grateful for her daughter Melissa who helped with so many of her loved committees and events and will be able to pick up the baton where required.”

Ms Wolski’s funeral notice currently has hundreds of comments expressing their sadness at her passing and her family thanked the community for their support.

“We would like to thank the community for all their support and many tributes that they have received at this very sad time,” they said.

“We know she would be humbled by the notifications and calls coming in.”

Mrs Wolski’s funeral will be held at 11am on July 15 at the Tanderra Lawn Cemetery Chinchilla
