THE agonisingly slow Chinchilla-Brigalow Warrego Highway upgrade has been delayed by another month, with a Transport and Main Roads spokesperson confirming the works would now be completed in March, weather permitting.
The project, being undertaken by contractor Ostwald Brothers, was originally meant to take nine months.
With the latest delay, it has become a 17-month project.
Transport and Main Roads has continually responded to questions from the Chinchilla News, blaming "wet weather” for the delays.
But the Chinchilla News revealed in December 2016 that there were also problems with the foam bitumen used to seal the road, something the department had refused to admit over the course of three months of inquiries.
Despite the eight-month delay, A TMR spokesperson said in December that there had been "no funding cuts or cost overruns, and this project will be delivered with savings”.
State Government documents show the project was originally budgeted for $36million in the 2015/16 financial year.
That figure was upped to $39.6million in the 2016/17 financial year, for "extra lane widening added during the final design stages”.
