CERTAINTY in rural public transport, despite COVID-19 travel restrictions, is welcome news for the Murweh Shire.

With airlines Qantas and Regional Express both confirming they will continue services, and Bus Queensland continuing their presence in the region, essential personnel will not be left without a connection.

Mayor Shaun Radnedge has offered his praise to the three operators for keeping locals in mind, even during necessary service cuts.

“I sincerely thank them for listening and responding to our concerns, our shire is fortunate that everyone worked together regardless of politics in these uncertain times to achieve a result in the best interests of the people of the southwest,” he said.

“I am pleased we have been heard and some services are restored, it is a positive result and I look forward to a full restoration of services down the track, once coronavirus pandemic restrictions are lifted.”

This month, Rex scaled back their usual schedule to one flight per week, while Qantas will still come to Charleville twice per week, with a stop in Roma.

Bus Queensland’s Brisbane-Mt Isa service, which stops in Charleville, continues daily, while the Charleville-Brisbane service is running twice a week.
