Pyjama Foundation volunteer Sami Rose is urging South East Queenslanders to challenge themselves for a cause close to their hearts and pound the pavement at this year’s Sunday Mail Bridge to Brisbane.
Ms Rose, who has volunteered with the charity for three years, said the energy throughout the race was always “electric”.
“Do it for your community,” she said. “Those around you will want to support you and cheer you on, and hopefully donate to your chosen charity to really help you make an impact.”
She said her best advice for those taking part on September 14 was to visualise themselves
crossing the finish line.
“Knowing that the special feeling of achieving something … is right there waiting for you at the end is such a great motivator.”
The Pyjama Foundation pairs volunteers with children in foster care to break the cycle of disadvantage by boosting their learning, life skills and confidence.
Foundation chief executive Bronwyn Sheehan said the charity was “so grateful to have the support” of the local community.
“Every stride made and every dollar raised will make a huge difference to the lives of children and young people in foster care,” she said.
The Pyjama Foundation is among hundreds of Queensland charities that benefit from the annual Bridge to Brisbane, which has raised millions for local causes since its inception in 1997.
Registrations are now open.
