Central Highlands visitors and locals can now explore more of the region’s thriving social scene with ease thanks to the launch of a new events calendar.
What’s On – Central Queensland Highlands, unveiled just in time for the Queensland school holidays, is now the official events calendar for the region.
The easy-to-navigate, mobile-friendly platform, developed by Central Highlands Development Corporation (CHDC), includes a search function and categories to find upcoming events, including sporting competitions, kids’ activities, markets and festivals, and business and industry workshops.
“Whether you like getting away from it all to explore natural attractions, or you’re more of a social creature who likes mingling amongst a crowd, you’ll find it in the Central Queensland Highlands,” CHDC Tourism Development coordinator Paul Thompson said.
The new events hub is a key priority of the Central Highlands Visitor Economy Strategy 2020-22, a three-year vision led by CHDC to grow the tourism and events sector.
The strategy recognises events as an important marketing tool because they can raise the region’s profile and attract visitors.
“What’s On is targeted at both visitors and locals but, just as importantly, it’s also designed to keep tourism operators updated on future events,” Mr Thompson said.
“The hub will help accommodation and hospitality providers prepare for increased capacity demand, and it will enable a variety of businesses to collaborate and cross promote to encourage event visitors to stay longer in the region.”
CHDC has also launched Explore More of Blackdown Tableland as part of its social media campaign, the second in its series of tourism promotion video clips.
The calendar can be found at whatson.centralqueenslandhighlands.com.au or on the main page of the Central Queensland Highlands website.
The video will be posted on the Central Queensland Highlands Facebook and Instagram channels.
