Eidsvold character Wayne Messer has been remembered by those who loved him as a great man who loved a laugh and a beer, and who loved to torment the constabulary. Read their heartfelt tribute:

Born and bred North Burnett “rascal” Wayne David Messer has been remembered by his friends and family after his recent death at the age of 70.
Mr Messer died peacefully on March 4, 2025, surrounded by family and friends after a battle with cancer.
His funeral notice published by Gladstone Valley Funerals read:
“Adored Husband of June.
“Beloved Father and Father-in-law of Tanya & Kelvin, Kym & Lucy, Jody & Erik and Tim.
“Dearly loved Pop of Damien, Jessica, Rhylie, Lochlan, Nate and Lucas.
“Much loved Pop Pop of Annie and Elijah.
“Loved Brother of Noel, Narelle, Darryl (dec’d) and Roxanne and Uncle to their families.
“A great mate of many.”
Mr Messer was born in Eidsvold in 1954.
He left school in Year 8, and spent a few years working for the council, the sawmill and driving trucks (without a licence) until he got a job working for the railway, where he worked for the next 38 years before retiring in 2012.
Mr Messer married his long-time love, June, when they were teenagers and they spent 50 years building a life rich with family and friends.
Together, they had four children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs Messer described her husband as “a bit of a rascal”.
“He was sort of a bit, how would you put it, not wild but... a bit of a rascal,” she said.
“He liked tormenting the cops.”

While he wasn’t much of a sportsman, he was a seasoned motorcyclist and had been riding since he was a teenager.
In his later years, he owned a Harley Davidson and would go for a ride whenever he felt like it.
His family remembered him as a good dad who was strict but fair, but also as someone who loved to have a laugh and “bend the elbow” with his mates.
“We had lots of good memories,” June said.
“Loved having a few parties and barbecues.
“Whenever we had a barbecue, there would also be a beer and music.
“And lots of laughs, always a laugh; he always had a bit of a joke.”
Mr Messer was a regular on the Eidsvold Rant n Rave Facebook group, and loved to share jokes and engaging posts with his fellow members.
Dozens of people posted their condolences on social media, with some sharing funny school memories.
“I went to school with Wayne in Eidsvold 1969-1971. Let’s just say that Wayne and the then Principal … had a “spirited” relationship,” one school friend wrote.
“I bet Wayne never forgot (him) !! Rest peacefully mate.”
“R.I.P. Wayne what a nice bloke. You were always up for a chat,” another person wrote.
“Love to all the family you will be missed Wayne by lots. rip old boy,” another person wrote.
Mr Messer’s funeral service will be held at the Boyne Tannum Memorial Parklands Chapel at 10am on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
