AS MUNDUBBERA questions the future of their show for next year, Colin Boyce is encouraging anyone to step up and fill the vacant position.

The Mundubbera Show Society held their annual general meeting on Monday and the position of secretary was not filled.

Mr Boyce said shows provide a great opportunity for towns to showcase the talents and products of their residents.

"Whether you are a grazier, with top quality cattle genetics on display, or a farmer with fresh, home-grown produce, the range of interests and exhibits to be viewed is wide-ranging,” he said.

Mr Boyce said often the displays at the show inspire others to enter next year, with photography and art, horses and cattle all providing interest to the visitors attending the show.

Mr Boyce also said the social impact of the show cannot be discounted, especially when people are doing it tough.

"A day off to go to the show and meet up with friends for a chat or a meal, can often be the break that people need to refresh and keep going, for many people who live out of town in particular, the show may be their annual chance to catch up with others that they just don't see often,” he said.

Mr Boyce said volunteering to help your region gives a sense of purpose and joining in with your community, these are their own reward.

"There is always someone available to give you a hand if this is something that you have never done before, simply give it a go,” he said.

Mr Boyce himself has spent many hours volunteering, and the sense of achievement and pride at the end of the day is immeasurable.
