GOING all dramatic and chic, Taubmans has announced its interior colour of the year for 2018 and it is Black Flame.

Not for the faint-hearted, it comes on the heels of what we have seen already - smoky, dark, slate greys.

But Black Flame goes deeper and darker and, well, it is pretty fabulous.

Black Flame embodies the essence of a tuxedo or a favourite black dress. It is unapologetic and effortlessly timeless.

It is a statement-making black, infused with an undertone of the deepest indigo that helps to create a chameleon-like colour. Its versatility and warmth ensures it will work in many spaces.

It is the perfect juxtaposition for soft textures, aged leathers and natural fibres, or contrast this colour with blonde and walnut timbers and complement with hints of gold and brass for a luxurious look.

GOING DARK FOR BEGINNERS: To ensure a less overpowering effect, use this colour near a window that looks out into greenery and highlight the timber frames and trims in white.

IN THE BEDROOM: For the right amount of drama and softness, keep the accents simple and use a mix of natural textures such as silk velvet, linen faux furs and weaves.

LIVING ROOMS: Artworks with wide, white frames provide a contemporary look. For a toned-down feel, integrate soft colours using lush fabrics and lamps with linen or transparent shades.
