A neighbour says a man who police will allege stabbed a resident to death in a unit complex knocked on his door minutes earlier.
Montasr Hassan Angolo, 23, from Brisbane’s Everton Park was charged with murder on Wednesday evening, after the body of 41-year-old Alan Waterman was discovered in his Caboolture South unit with what was believed to be knife wounds to his neck.
It is understood a carer arrived at the Torrens Rd unit shortly after 9am on Wednesday and called police after seeing blood by the front door and hearing noises coming from inside.
Detective Inspector Stephen Windsor said when police arrived, they found a man in the house.
“It appears that a weapon was used,” Insp Windsor said.
“The victim has injuries to his neck.”
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said the man had knocked on his door minutes earlier in an agitated state, before the resident watched him walk towards the exit of the complex.
Residents in an adjoining unit complex said he then knocked on multiple other doors about 4am.
Both Scenes of Crime police and detectives remained at the murder scene on Thursday morning.
Crime scene tape was set up around his unit, and possible evidence had been collected and placed in bags.
Police were also seen taking photographs of a grey Holden Ute parked opposite Mr Waterman’s complex.
They were also photographing a large silver toolbox near the car.
Neighbours left a floral tribute to Mr Waterman at the edge of the crime scene tape.
Residents in the small unit complex said Alan was well-known, and was often seen riding his bike.
They usually exchanged an occasional wave or chat with Mr Waterman, and said he was always pleasant.
“He was the most undeserving victim of this,” one neighbour said.
He was known as a quiet man who usually kept to himself.
Neighbours said he didn’t appear to have any loved ones who visited him.
Representatives from the Department of Housing were at the complex on Thursday door knocking neighbours to check on their welfare.
Another resident said random people regularly entered the complex despite not being a resident.
They had asked the Department for greater safety measures on the complex, but so far their calls haven’t been answered.
Angolo, who did not appear in person or via videolink, was represented by lawyer Mark Zeller in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on Thursday, charged with murder and enter dwelling with intent.
Mr Zeller told the court there will be no bail application for Angolo and asked the court for an adjournment, so a legal aid application can be processed.
Magistrate Peter Hasted adjourned the matter to October 19, 2023 at the Caboolture Magistrates Court.
