An application for a new winery and brandy distillery has been approved by the Bundaberg Regional Council.

Owners Michael and Alice Harrison intend to use an existing grape crop to create wine with the distillery to process the by-products of the wine into brandy at Moore Park.

According to the application document, the distillery will make use of existing structures already at the location, with Insight SJC awarded the contract to undertake this development once further approval is issued.

The site will be roughly 28 km north of Bundaberg’s CPD with shuttle transfers proposed to transport thirsty tourists out to the site.

Insight SJC’s development application also states that once established, the site will be “producing less than 2,500L per annum”, and distillery tours, tasting and wholesale retail of the produce will be available on site.

Due to limited guest capacity, tours are set to by appointment with room for up to 20 guests at a time, with approval for up to 40 guests a day.

“The nature of tours and tastings would mean that visitor numbers would be grouped together for a limited number of tours per day,” the application reads.

The development has keen intentions for running a renewable and energy efficient practice with by-products being made into saleable products coupled with a solar powered facility.

Bundaberg is fast becoming a distilling hotspot – not only due to it’s famous rum but also the increasingly popular Kalki Moon gin and other brews.
