Bundaberg soprano Suellen Cusack-Greensill has started 2023 on a high note, after releasing the first single from her upcoming debut solo album.

A World in Union is the first of two singles to be dropped before the full album, titled The Whisper of Angels, is released in time for Mother’s Day.

It’s a labour of love for the Shalom College and Queensland Conservatorium alumni, who started singing lessons at 13, and was teaching guitar lessons before she was hand-picked for a lead role in Scotland the Brave, performed at prestigious venues around the world, including the Lincoln Centre on Broadway.

“I’ve been prepping for the album for the past 12 months, but some of these songs have been in my life for years,” Cusack-Greensill said.

“My album will be a collection of some of my favourite melodies to sing.

“I am a classically trained singer, but I’ve always loved beautiful music that you can sing as a classical singer that isn’t just confined to the opera genre.

“I’ve always loved and have been inspired by classical crossover singers like American baritone Josh Groban, Welsh tenor Aled Jones, and Norwegian soprano Sissel.

“Recording in this genre felt really natural.”

Recorded at Red Engine Recording in Manly and produced by Michael Cristano under the guidance of Robert Rigby from Ambition Music, the album will feature 10 classical crossover songs.

“This album is everything I hoped it would be and I feel like a big part of that is due to the talents and time of Michael Cristiano,” she said.

The album also features some other well-known names.

“I have two Bundaberg born artists on the album, Kate Hardisty on the violin and viola, and Michael Goodall on the cello,” Cusack-Greensill said.

“Two people who are not only great friends but wonderful artists in their own right.”

Gregory Moore of Ten Tenors fame, and Phantom of the Opera performer Paul Tabone also feature in duets.

“(Gregory and I) have shared many musical highlights together and I’m so proud to sing with him on this album,” she said.

“I perform Perhaps Love with Paul Tabone, who has travelled the world as Ubaldo Piangi in Phantom of the Opera.

“It was such a privilege to sing such a beautiful song with Paul.”

As for the rest of 2023, there’s still more excitement to come.

“I’ll have a beautiful album launch at the Moncrieff Theatre and a few other national opportunities that I’m excited to announce in 2023,” Cusack-Greensill said.
