REVEALED: Queensland’s 2024 Schoolgirls rugby league teams

Queensland has named its 15/16s and 17/18s Schoolgirls rugby league teams following the state championships in Townsville. Catch up on the tournament and see who made the cut.

Met East have claimed the 2024 Queensland Schoolgirls 17/18 state championships with a hard-fought 18-12 triumph over Met West on Sunday afternoon.

The two tournament standouts – who both went undefeated through their three regular games – were locked at 12-12 at the break after Met East scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the first half, including a spectacular finish in the right corner to draw level in the dying minutes.

Met East hit the lead for the first time halfway through the second half when Nikolina Fangupo crashed over underneath the posts for her second try of the afternoon.

The girls in black then defended their hearts out until the final whistle, fending away Met West as they desperately hunted the equaliser.

Porche John was named Met East’s player of the match while Met West five-eighth Shalom Sauaso got the honours for the runners-up.

Met North lock Keira Rangi finished the championships as top tryscorer in the 17/18s with six four-pointers.

Earlier on Sunday Met East claimed the 15/16 title with a convincing 26-12 win over South Coast. Backrower Star Clarke was named Met East’s player of the final.

Kanisha Green (Wide Bay) and Tayla Thomas (Darling Downs) finished the championships as top tryscorers in the junior division with five tries each.

Northern’s girls had a mixed bag of results over the weekend, winning one of three games in the 17/18s and two of three in the 15/16s.

The Northern 15/16s side drew 18-18 with Met West on Sunday to finish the championships in third place.
