A Bundaberg mother has been left heartbroken and has offered a $3000 reward for information on the person who shot her family‘s dog and left it to die.

Demi Brockhurst said she had been out for several hours on the afternoon of Thursday, July 1 when someone entered her home and shot her small pet dog.

Lady was left to bleed to death from a bullet wound in her chest, according to the vet who carried out a post mortem.

“I’m saddened, sickened and confused that in this day and age someone can come into your house yard while you are at work and shoot your family pet and all the police can say is ’looks like someone did it for a laugh’ because I have had no threats or no one known to want to hurt me,” Mrs Brockhurst said.

“They came into my house yard, shot my dog and left her to bleed out. They have left my three little children horrified and shaken that someone could do that... at our home. Our safe place. Where we sleep.”

Mrs Brockhurst has been left terrified, unsure if the person who shot her family's beloved dog could come back and strike again.

Mrs Brockhurst said she was left disappointed by the police response and claims no one came out to her home and she was told there was nothing police could do without CCTV.

Mrs Brockhurst has called for anyone with information to come forward.

“Someone has to have heard something,” she said.

“Someone has to have seen something. This can't be swept under the carpet.

“I won’t let it for the safety of my children and pets.”

Mrs Brockhurst said the incident happened between 3 and 8.30pm on July 1.

“Since when is it okay to enter someone's home and shoot a gun, let alone kill their pet?” she said.

“Veterinarian autopsy has confirmed she was shot and left to die. She bled to death. There is one entry and one exit wound through her chest. My poor girl didn't deserve this.

“Someone help me find who did this.”

Ms Brockhurst said the vet told her Lady had suffered from a 7mm bullet which had created a 40mm circle of internal damage.

Her chest wall had caved in.

“The autopsy had confirmed definitely a gun and massive amounts of internal damage,” she said.

Mrs Brockhurst said she believed the angle of the entry and exit wounds meant Lady was shot at close range.

“It’s shaken our family,” she said.

“The scariest part is knowing someone can enter your front yard and shoot a gun and get away with it.”

The Queensland Police Service said investigations were underway.

“Police are aware of the matter and are investigating,” a spokesperson said.

Anyone with information on the matter can contact Policelink on 131 444 and quote QP number QP2101200295.
