RACQ LifeFlight winches injured man from boat near K’Gari

The Rescue helicopter has winched a man to safety off the north coast of K’Gari after he was crushed by a falling frame on a trawler. Watch the video

The RACQ rescue helicopter has hauled a trawlerman to safety in a dramatic rescue off the coast of K’Gari after he was pinned to the deck by a 200kg frame.

The aeromedical chopper was called into action at 9.30am Tuesday to winch the man from the deck of the 20m trawler in the Coral Sea.

The man in his 30s was injured after a 200kg steel frame fell in the early hours of the morning, pinning him underneath.

It is reported the man was able to free himself, but suffered lower abdominal injuries.

A Rescue Crew Officer was winched down to the deck of the trawler to bring the man back up from the vessel.

He was flown to the Bundaberg Hospital for further treatment, but his condition is unknown at this time.

The rescue marks the fourth in a busy week for the LifeFlight crew including a winching a man with a crushed hand from a longline fishing vessel, 100 nautical miles from the coast of Bundaberg, on October 31.

The following day, the crew located and flown two survivors of a heartbreaking boating incident off the Central Queensland Coast, in which a Bundaberg man in his 70s tragically died.

Just hours later the crew was called out once more, this time 70 nautical miles offshore to winch a man from a bulk-carrier.
