The Block episodes 27 & 28 recap: Lip sync battle and a fruit fight divides The Block

The Love Island twins call in the lawyers as one team member strips off for Delta Goodrem — and a fruit fight causes a neighbourhood divide.

The Block 2021 asking prices revealed

The claws came out – as did the flesh – as the fight to win kitchen week (and a pricey wine fridge) really heated up.

At the lip sync battle, Georgia and Ronnie took home yet another cash prize (and a bonus point gnome) for a hilarious rendition of Sia’s Chandelier that saw Ronnie don a flesh-coloured leotard and perform eye-popping dance moves.

Mitch and Mark followed suit with the revealing performances. donning some tighty-whiteys to strut their stuff to Wham’s Wake Me Up Before You Go Go!

Tanya and Vito crooned Dolly and Kenny Rogers’ Islands in the Stream, Kirsty and (a shell shocked) Jesse did Queen, and the twins performed a comical rendition of Hakuna Matata.

But none could hold a candle to the visual gymnastics of Ronnie. With guest judge Delta Goodrem commenting that in all her years on The Voice, she’d never seen a performance quite like it.

“When you said you were wearing a leotard and really committing to it. You really meant it,” she laughed.

“The feedback from the judges was basically: ‘We can’t unsee that!’,” Ronnie acknowledged.

There were no sour grapes from Mitch, who felt it was a well-earned victory.

“When a man of Ronnie’s shape gets into a flesh-coloured leotard and dances and wiggles around, he deserves the $5000. He deserves first place,” he said.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that The Block is divided into two camps. On one side there’s the cheaters (aka twins Josh and Luke and Tanya and Vito) and rule abiders Mitch, Mark, Ronnie, Georgia, Kirsty and Jesse.

To mend bridges, Tanya decided to deliver a peace offering in the shape of a wheel of cheese, a container of dip and a selection of fruit.

While the twins accepted theirs with gusto, the other three teams were less welcoming. Kirsty took the basket but seemed perplexed, adding that the only times Tanya had come to see her previously was to turf them out of a bed and (sort of) to confess to cheating.

A harried Mark — already in a foul mood due to a bench top stuff up (more on that later) and the realisation schedule changes created by the cheating scandal had cost them their feature ceiling — wasn’t having a bar of Tanya’s fresh produce.

His response to the gift basket? A curt “No thanks!” without so much as looking up from his painting.

Did it come with a tablespoon of insincerity?” Mitch asked later.

Ronnie accepted his delivery, arguing that he never said “No” to food, but wife Georgia was incensed by what she believed was a hollow gesture.

Georgia slammed her purple-haired rival as a fake, saying Tanya never spoke to her outside of filming.

“Just keep it the same, cameras on or cameras off. Just be 100 per cent authentic and organic and you’ll get more out of life,” she said of Tanya’s behaviour.

For what it’s worth, it appears Tanya isn’t much of a fan of fan favourite Georgia either.

“The second Georgia realised I wasn’t going to lick her arse and give her what she needed (which was a lot of validation) she clung to Kirsty because Kirsty is there for it,” she fumed as a sullen Vito sat alongside her in silence.

“Georgia wasn’t a fan of Kirsty at all. She told me that herself. But it’s fine because Kirsty is a huge Georgia fan so that’s why it works.

“She gives Georgia what she needs which is a lot of time and attention and acknowledging that she’s awesome and I don’t do that for her.”

Tanya added that the clique-ness between Kirsty and Georgia felt a bit “mean girls” — I am guessing in that scenario Georgia is Regina George, Kirsty one of her vacuous minions and Tanya the smart outsider played by Lindsay Lohan in the film back when she was still fresh-faced and coherent.

Kirsty wasn’t having a bar of that suggestion.

“It’s not mean girls. We just along better,” Kirsty shrugged of her relationship with Georgia.

“Because we don’t talk shit or do anything behind anyone’s back.”

Schoolyard squabbles aside, there was also a lot of renovation work going on that had some contestants getting more than a little hot under the collar.

Mark lost his marbles when his Caesarstone bench tops arrived and were mismatched heights. The normally mild-mannered Mark let fly with several expletives, saying the kitchen top makers had screwed him over and demanding that they rectify the problem.

“It’s a design disaster. An ergonomic disaster!” Mark ranted.

“Mitch and I would never sign off on a 100mm benchtop.”

Cue the downcast Caesarstone rep revealing he had plans with Mitch and Mark’s signature on them, approving the 100mm design.

But rather than rubbing the plans in Mark’s furious face, the generous chap simply agreed to have the benchtop redone. When the contestants go low, Caesarstone goes high (except on bench measurements).

There’s no doubting Kirsty and Jesse have had the biggest job on The Block this week, building not only a kitchen from scratch but a bedroom, bathroom and staircase as well. Their huge job was at standstill because the steel beam used to hold up their ceiling and been, well, held up.

And Vito found himself up to his elbows in sink woes. After feverishly hunting for his missing kitchen sink in neighbours’ yards. Vito got on the phone and frantically tried to track one down. His prayers were soon answered when a delivery of 13 sinks arrived with his name on them.

The twins were still trying to find a way to restore their outdoor bathroom after being forced to remove all of its walls (because they only had planning permission to erect screens).

Architect Julian Brenchley was once again dispatched to help the twins rectify the debacle.

But convincing the boys to do anything they don’t want to do is like hitting your head up against a brick wall.

Yet again ignoring Julian’s cost-effective and code-compliant suggestions, the twins called in the big guns. A lawyer.

“Steve (the lawyer) is a good man. We might keep him on for other matters so that if people cross us, they’ll get served,” Josh said.

“If in doubt, lawyer up,” added Luke.

Looks like The Block could soon become a courtroom drama as well as a renovation series.
