The Block 2021 episode 31 and 32 recap: Get out! Vito verbally abuses producer

He’s been chafing at the presence of cameras on this reality TV show for week, but now Vito has gone too far, kicking them out of his house.

Biggest winners of The Block so far

Note to future reality TV show hopefuls: if you don’t like being filmed or asked questions by TV producers, consider not being a reality TV contestant.

If only someone had given Vito this piece of advice.

We’ve already seen him storm off The Block set rather than answer questions from producers, but now he’s snapped entirely.

After spending half a day under the house insulating the floor of the living and dining room he’s dismayed to be informed by Keith he’ll have to pull it all out because the floor hasn’t been inspected and signed off.

After telling a producer he’s “absolutely gutted”, he objects to the camera staying on him.

“Any more questions? You done? Well get out then,” he shouts.

It’s an ugly moment that he’s asked about in his later sit down interview. He says he didn’t like the producer staring at him and felt the producer was silently saying “You stuffed up”.

“Did he actually say that?,” he’s asked.

“No, that’s my truth, that’s my reaction,” Vito replies, admitting he’s embarrassed by his explosion.

“I didn’t want that to happen. He’s doing his job.”

Let’s hope “my truth” is consigned to the bin forever after this season of The Block is over because it’s pretty quickly become a code word for “my lie”.

Meanwhile, another episode, another win for Ronnie and Georgia. This time they take out $10,000 for making the best video ad for their property, along with three points on the leaderboard, putting them in an almost unassailable position to be given the right to decide the all important auction order.

The couple have now won $78,000 in prize money.

It’s a frantic week for all the couples because as well as finishing their living/dining rooms they have to waterproof and plaster their laundry spaces if they want free installation of their cabinetry.

This is because of change to the schedule necessitated by the cheating scandal.

All the teams dig deep to get the extra space prepared, including Kirsty and Jesse, who have a whopping seven extra spaces to finish thanks to their much larger house. All teams, that is, except Tanya and Vito who, thanks to their cheating, caused the rescheduling in the first place.

“The laundry will not happen this week. We cannot get to it, we simply cannot,” Vito says.

“How’s the irony,” Ronnie remarks.

It’s no wonder Tanya and Vito remain on the outs with the other contestants.

Even Josh and Luke are starting to distance themselves from their fellow partners in cheating by extending an olive branch to Ronnie and Georgia. Cynics might say it’s because they realise Ronnie and Georgia will likely hold their fate in their hands when deciding the auction order, but regardless, it’s a welcome outbreak of congeniality.

“I’ve always liked those guys,” Ronnie says. “But I think now they’re realised they got into the wrong bed they’re making more of an effort to come and talk to me whereas before they wouldn’t have done that.”

Jesse and Kirsty have worked out they have a $30,000 shortfall in their budget to finish their massive house. Scott Cam advises them to do the bare minimum in their remaining extra rooms because they won’t be judged on them, but they’re still going to have to find some cash.

Luke and Josh are determined to ignore Scott Cam’s advice that they can’t afford to put in a pool, and could win the show without one. Picture: Channel 9

The twins are short too, but they’re determined to forge ahead with a pool, despite Scott Cam telling them they could win even if they were the only house without one.

“We’re not listening to Scotty,” Luke says. “We’re not compromising on the pool. We’ll dig it ourselves if we have to.”

Better buy some spades, boys.
