Labor’s infrastructure legacy in Bundaberg has continued into the new year with 96 new social and affordable homes set for completion.
Three separate social and affordable housing developments commenced before last year’s state election under the then Miles Labor Government, with construction nearing completion as part of local MP Tom Smith’s advocacy to deliver more housing.
The Bundaberg MP said significant progress had been made towards housing local families thanks to modular housing being included alongside traditional builds.
“Our Homes for Queenslanders plan had a deliberate focus to deliver more housing in a shorter time frame for regional communities and we are seeing that unfold in Bundaberg,” he said.
“Many locals have witnessed how quickly the 34 modular homes along Bargara Road are being built, and how soon they will be ready for families to call home.”
Of the 34 modular homes currently under construction, 10 will provide single bedroom accommodation, with the other 24 set for two bedrooms each.
In addition, another development site is nearing completion on six modular homes as part of the project’s stage one delivery, with stage tw0 promising 40 more homes by late 2025.
“Including modular homes means more residents can be housed sooner and less people are left facing vulnerable situations,” Mr Smith said.
A third site funded by the former Labor Government is also currently under construction, delivering 16 two-bedroom units that will be managed by Regional Housing Limited for affordable housing.
