A woman led astray by “so-called friends”, who stole from multiple stores before being found with a dangerous party drug, has faced a Bundaberg court.
Ternishia Ritchie, held at Brisbane Women’s Correctional Centre, pleaded guilty in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court to numerous charges today, July 15.
Ms Ritchie appeared in court via video link to face charges including possession of dangerous drugs, multiple counts of theft and breach of bail conditions.
Ms Ritchie’s legal troubles began on April 17 when she stole a backpack and clothing from Kmart in Bundaberg.
The thefts continued across various stores including Big W, Coles, Kmart, Silly Solly’s and Woolworths, with incidents reported on April 20, April 29, April 30 and May 9.
On May 10, she was found in possession of GHB, a dangerous party drug.
Ms Ritchie was involved in additional thefts on June 2 and also breached her bail conditions on the same day.
The court heard the total value of the stolen goods amounted to just over $300.
In court, Ritchie, who has a limited criminal history, pleaded guilty to all charges.
Magistrate John McInnes noted that her criminal behaviour was influenced by prescription medication misuse and negative peer influences.
“You’d been led astray by some so-called friends,” Mr McInnes said.
Ms Ritchie served 37 days in custody and was remanded due to her bail breach.
She was released on a good behaviour bond for 12 months with a $1500 bond.
Mr McInnes acknowledged her father’s role in assisting with her rehabilitation upon her release.
