A man has faced the Bundaberg court after testing positive to two types of drug during a random police check.

A young kitchen hand has lost his licence for three months after a random police check showed he was driving with two different drugs in his system.

Joshua Blake Doorey was travelling on Round Hill Rd at Agnes Water on May 21, 2022, when police pulled him over for a random roadside test.

Early testing and lab results revealed the presence of both cannabis and meth.

Police prosecutor Grant Klaassen told Bundaberg Magistrates Court that Doorey had no traffic or criminal history, and submitted that a fine and minimal disqualification would be in order.

Doorey accepted the analysis and pleaded guilty to one count of drug driving.

When asked if he had any comment in relation to the drugs in his system, he declined.

Magistrate Edwina Rowan took his “very early” plea of guilty into account when considering the sentence, noting he was still entitled to the benefit of youth.

“It is relevant in the exercise of my sentencing discretion that you do not come before the court with any traffic or criminal history which tends to indicate to me that this is out of character for you and in those circumstances I am persuaded that I should fine you,” Ms Rowan said.

Doorey was fined $400, referred to SPER, and disqualified from driving for three months.

A conviction was not recorded.
