A Bundaberg region man has appeared in court facing two charges of breaching a domestic violence order and one of obstructing police.

The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared by videolink from the Bundaberg Watchhouse in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court heard the man had breached a domestic violence order twice by contacting a victim and sending them 16 messages over Facebook messenger including a video message where he told the victim he loved her and would kill himself.

The other offence related to a message sent to a victim, demanding they give him cigarettes and saying “... I’m going to bash the s*** out of you”.

When police attended the defendant’s home, he yelled at police, walked away and then, once on the ground, refused to get back up.

The court heard the man spent a lot of time alone and suffered from mental health issues and that drinking spirits had been a trigger in the offending.

The defendant had been on an 18-month suspended sentence for wilful damage from October 2019.

As a result, he was sentenced to three months’ jail with an immediate parole release date and 12 months’ probation.

Convictions were recorded.
