An argument over purchasing the wrong milk escalated to a single mother slashing her partner with a knife and cutting his forearm.
Alexis Monique Hill pleaded guilty at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday to one charge of unlawful assault.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Vicki Kennedy-Grills told the court Hill, 23, was living in Bargara with her eight week old baby and her 55 -year-old partner.
The court was told that Hill and her partner walked to shops near their home to buy some milk around 8.45am while drinking cans of bourbon, with Hill pushing her baby in a pram.
After purchasing the milk the couple got into an argument about the kind of milk they had bought, and Hill threw her can of bourbon at her partner which soaked him in alcohol.
In retaliation, her partner picked up the can of bourbon and poured it over Hill. She “stormed off” back home while pushing the baby in the pram.
The court was told Hill entered the kitchen and grabbed a knife from the top drawer and went back to the front door and screamed at her partner not to come into the house or she would “cut him”.
The court was told Hill walked across the front yard towards him with the knife in her hand and repeated the threat.
Hill had told police that her partner said, “well f---ing do it then”.
The court was told that Hill took several swipes at him with the knife, causing two lacerations to the back of his right forearm.
Hill’s partner called Bargara police station and some officers attended their home, and she told them she did not intend to cut her partner but just wanted him to stay out of the house.
Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics took Hill’s partner to Bundaberg Hospital where he required stitches.
Defence lawyer Rian Dwyer said Hill had been diagnosed with ADHD, had never worked and lived on parent payments.
Magistrate Edwina Rowan took into account the age difference between Hill and her partner and that she had a young child in her care.
She sentenced Hill to 15 months’ probation.
