Bundaberg councillor Vince Habermann said running for re-election for Division 7 at the March 16 election was the “natural thing to do” and promised to put his “proven track record” to work if successful.

The Bundaberg local has an impressive history within the region, including being awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2008 for his commitment to local sports.

Over the years he has also been awarded life memberships of the Brothers Cricket Club, Bundaberg Cricket Association, Brothers Sports Club, Diggers Football Club, and Past Brothers Rugby League Football Club.

If elected, it would mark the third term served in the council chambers by Mr Habermann who served as Division 4 councillor from 2012 to 2016.

Mr Habermann said his passion for the office had encouraged him to run again, a decision that was the “natural thing to do”.

“I’ve always been a hard worker. I’ve had 100 per cent attendance at all council meetings and I like to see positive results,” he said.

Mr Habermann said he believed there was “unfinished business” within the council, with major pipeline projects needing an experienced hand.

“The pool, which has been a point of contention, to me is going to be a great thing for the community, it’s a legacy project which is going to be great for Bundaberg for many years to come,” he said.

In his role for the Sports and Recreation portfolio, Mr Habermann said it has been an honour to oversee a portfolio close to his heart.

“Over the last four years we’ve held many state and national championships for a number of sports, we’ve had the Bulldogs NRL play for the past two years,” he said.

However, Mr Habermann said his passion for the region went beyond sport and towards the little things of importance to the community from footpaths, to lighting, to popular festivals.

“It’s a great honour to be councillor. It’s a tough job. You’ve always got your critics, but I’m always wanting to achieve the best outcome possible for the people in Division 7 and the Bundaberg region at large,” he said.
