Frogtastic to be reinvestigated over further potential breaches

An investigation into a Bundaberg childcare centre, found in breach of national supervision laws after a child was seriously injured, has been reopened.

BUDGET 2022: Winners and losers

An investigation into the Frogtastic Childcare Centre at Avoca has been reopened by the Department of Education “to include further potential breaches”.

It comes after Naaz Ali, 33, was horrified when she picked her two-year-old daughter, Ruhee, up from the centre on January 13 to find her mouth covered in blood.

Ms Ali claimed the centre failed to notify her of the incident and did not seek professional medical attention for Ruhee.

The incident required the four-year-old undergo surgery to fix her teeth.

An initial investigation into Ms Ali’s complaint found Frogtastic Kindergarten and Childcare Centre breached a number of national laws and regulations.

Ms Ali requested a review into the investigation, telling the department more breaches should have been found because of the way she claimed educators at the service handled the injury, including not recognising the seriousness of the injury, not calling an ambulance and not calling her as soon as the injury occurred.

She said she was left with more questions than answers after the last investigation concluded.

“The last investigation was not up to standard,” Ms Ali claimed

In a letter, sighted by the NewsMail to Ms Ali on March 31, Rebecca Christopherson, Director of Regulation, Assessment and Service Quality for Early Childhood and Education Improvement, confirmed not all of Ms Ali’s concerns were addressed in the initial investigation.

Ms Christopherson stated the initial investigation was limited to inadequate supervision of children and the requirement to notify the regulatory authority within the legislative time frames.

She recommended the investigation be reopened to address the issues raised in Ms Ali’s request to review the outcome of the initial investigation to include further potential breaches.

The department confirmed three breaches of the national regulations would be investigated, including if policies and procedures were properly followed and that they complied with regulation 85, supervisors followed policies and procedures in the event of injury or trauma and the centre took reasonable steps to ensure supervisors and staff members of the centre followed policies and procedures required under regulation 168.

Ms Ali said she hoped a new outcome would give her more clarity surrounding the steps the educators took after Ruhee was hurt.

“I’m glad the investigation has reopened as there are potential breaches which should have been addressed in the last investigation,” she said
