Food operators in Bundaberg are being encouraged to join the council’s food safety initiative in a bid to ensure safety for the region’s diners.

Think Food Safe is a voluntary program which entitles participating businesses to enjoy discounted licence fees and reduced council inspections.

Food businesses which join program will be able to display the Think Food Safe logo in their stores.

Councillor Carmen McEneany said the logo signals to customers “(the businesses) care about providing their service at a high standard”.

Food outlets across the country are required to uphold the Australian Food Safety Standards which Ms McEneany said can be achieved with the program.

“By providing tools to help businesses meet their responsibilities under the Food Safety Standard, the program provides confidence to the community that food operators are compliant,” she said.

“Customers can look for the green Think Food Safe sticker and relax, eat safe and enjoy, in the knowledge that the business is committed to maintaining an elevated standard of food safety.”
