Fire crews battle major truck blaze near Isis Hwy
Four fire crews battle a truck blaze that spread to grasslands north of Childers, forcing police to establish a 500m exclusion zone and divert traffic.
Multiple fire crews are currently battling a blaze that started in a truck on a rural stretch of road north of Childers before spreading to the surrounding grasslands.
Initial reports indicate two fire crews were called to Gregory River on Wednesday morning, with another two crews been called out to the scene shortly after.
A spokesman for Queensland Fire Department said the fire originated in a truck carrying a non-flammable load on Childers Rd, past Logging Creek Rd.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, he said.
Two fire and rescue crews, along with two Childers Rural Fire Service crews arrived at the scene shortly after 10.30am.
About 11.20 one crew began to spray the truck with foam, while a second crew continued to battle the grass fire.
A spokeswoman for Queensland Police Service said a 500m exclusion zone had been set up in the area with traffic being diverted.
The fire and rescue teams estimated it would take another hour to battle the blaze she said.
