Graduating from high school is no mean feat, but these high achieving Kepnock State High School students have proven they have what it takes to go far.

With the school year officially at an end for Year 12 graduates, students Grace Hardisty and Chloe Howden have been announced as the school’s highest achiever of 2023.

The students were awarded as awards night on November 14.

Year 12 graduate Chloe Howden has spoken on the “esteemed achievement” of being awarded senior dux for 2023.

“It feels great. It’s really fulfilling and rewarding to see my hard work throughout the past six years of high school, especially the last two years in senior schooling, pay off,” she said.

Chloe said her desire to work hard across her high school years was to create as many opportunities for her future as possible.

“A large part of my motivation towards my studies would stem from wanting to provide myself with as many opportunities as possible,” she said.

“I have always wanted to undertake some form of tertiary study in university, and I figured by achieving my best possible results I could provide myself with a wider variety of course and career options to choose from.”

Bundaberg residents need not dismay as losing such a bright mind from the region, as Chloe plans to stay in Bundaberg to study Engineering at the local Central Queensland University campus.

Year 9 student Grace Hardisty stood alongside Chloe on awards night when she was named the 2023 Junior Dux for Kepnock High.

While she has no firm plans for her post high school future, she said she would continue working hard to her academic goals.

Grace spoke on the support that had helped her through her first three years of high school.

“I am very grateful to all my teachers for helping me through school and my assessments, receiving this award couldn’t be possible without them,” she said.

“Having the title of junior dux continues to motivate me to work hard and reach for my goals.”

Grace said she was motivated by the support of her parents, and watching them cheer her on was a reward in itself.

“I was also inspired by my teachers and peers who encouraged and supported me along the way.”
