After 27 years and more than 25,000 vehicles, Bundaberg’s oldest car detailing business is changing hands.
Steve Clark and his wife Laurel sold Steve Clark Car Detailing Services to Kellie Wagstaff late last year.
After operating for more than 27 years and detailing over 25,000 vehicles, Steve Clark and his wife Laurel have sold Steve Clark Car Detailing Service, Bundaberg’s oldest car detailing business, to Kellie Wagstaff.
Announcing the sale on the business’s Facebook page, Clark wrote:
“After operating our business for over 27 years and detailing well over 25,000 vehicles of all descriptions, it’s time for Laurel and I to move on to the next chapter.
“We are very happy to announce that we have sold Steve Clark Car Detailing Service to Kellie Wagstaff.
“All of the crew will remain here, and it will be business as usual with the same high standard of service and quality workmanship.
“We would like to thank our customers for their support over the years and hope that you will continue to support this great business into the future.
“A huge thank you to all the reps and staff that have helped us make this the best possible detailing business in Bundaberg.”
Mr Clark also reflected on his passion for cars and detailing saying he loved cars since he was a kid.
“As an adult, I wanted a job in the automotive industry,” he said.
“The car detailing industry in Bundaberg has constantly changed.
“I’ve seen at least 30 to 40 other detailing businesses come and go over the years.
“Unfortunately, vehicle detailing isn’t regulated, and you don’t even need a qualification to work as a detailer and start a detailing business.
“Most of them go unchecked and don’t have a trade waste certificate either.
“So doing everything the correct and legal way made it difficult for the legitimate guys like myself.
“Fortunately, doing everything the right way as well as having a very high-quality standard of work helped me get some very lucrative, contracts with local and state governments as well as helping me to build a reputable name in the Bundaberg community.”
Mr Clark said the business sold for $120,000, and he will work with the new owner to ensure a smooth transition.
“We’ve been so fortunate to have had so many long-term customers; some have even been there right from the beginning,” he said.
“I would like to thank them all very much and to say stay in touch because I’ll miss seeing them.
“The same goes for the long-term staff. We were so lucky to have them work for us and help build the business into such a success.”
With the sale finalised, Mr Clark is taking a well-earned break before deciding his next steps, including job offers and the possibility of running for local government again.
